Description
So apparently I am 50 years old now.
David J (Bauhaus,Love and Rockets) was doing a show in San Jose. I've seen him live a few times and really like his solo work. It's mostly acoustic and lyrically abrasive, more poet than pop star.
One must understand that I work 7AM - 4PM and I usually retire before 9PM. Being outside after sunset was strange and mysterious. The first band 'Silent Pictures' came on around 9:45 and played till 10:15, the second band 'The Sky Parade' came on around 10:30 and played till 11:30. David J hit the stage shortly before midnight. Both bands were very good so I can't complain too much. He was accompanied by a keyboard, bass and drums. Normally he plays solo acoustic guitar.
I was approaching sleep-deprivation level delirium.
David opened with a new track "Not Long for this World", then an early solo number "Crocodile Tears and the Velvet Cosh". A few other solo tunes followed then he dipped into his past and did a killer Bauhaus tune "Who Killed Mr. Moonlight".
Suddenly the floodgates were open and the show became pure screaming metal. An electric guitarist joined the band and the Love and Rockets set was released. "No New Tell to Tell", "Rainbird", "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven" were all blasted at 10 zillion decibels.
He then left the stage but quickly returned for the encore. "Haunted", "Holiday on the Moon" and a shredding "Kundalini Express".
We left at 1:30AM and got home around 2:30AM.
If that's what getting old is all about I guess I'm OK with it.
