“BLACK BALLOONS | 13LACK 13ALLOONZ” is the second track off of Denzel Curry’s third studio album "TA13OO". The track includes features from rapper GoldLink and R&B artist Twelve’Len.

Throughout the track, Denzel discusses tragic experiences and draws a variety of parallels between his own life and the movie It, as seen in the first verse of the song:

"Taboo and I are in the same boat
What’s said from Pennywise, I guess we all float"

In a March 2019 interview with Genius, Curry discussed the making of the song:

"The original verse and the original beat … I liked the hook, but I didn’t like my verse and I didn’t like the original beat. I went back into the studio. It was like, ‘Hey. Yo. You should listen to the new version.’ I was like, ‘Okay. Lemme hear it.’ They played the new version, I was like, ‘Oh, alright.’"

We was all in the studio, me, Finatik, Zac, Mickey. I think Reece was there at the time. Who knows? Twelve'len was in town at the same time. We was all finishing … just finishing up the album. Right? And what happened was the original verse and the original beat … I liked the hook, but I didn’t like my verse and I didn’t like the original beat, so I was like, “Nah.” I gotta come harder than that. And then I left. I took a day just to recuperate and stuff like that, ‘cause I was working on this record and I was working on the record with JID around the same time.

"I went to Six Flags because I was like, “I just got away and have fun that whole day.” After we came from Six Flags, I went back into the studio. It was like, “Hey. Yo. You should listen to the new version.” I was like, “Okay. Lemme hear it.” They played the new version, I was like, “Oh, alright.” I was telling Twelve'len sing this. And he went in and I was like, there’s a certain way I wanted him to sing it.

I went in there and did a example of me singing it. And he was like, “Oh. Like that.” And I was like, “Yeah, like that.” He went in and then we all just built the hook together. We just started doubling it, doubling it, doubling it, throwing people in there from the best voices to the very worst voices. That’s how we came up with the hook.

Me and Twelve'len been making music together for years. And GoldLink, me and him used to do shows together back when we was real, real underground. Super underground. And with Twelve'len, he always been a singer and I always admired his work. And he’s a hell of a rapper, but he just chose to sing. Bringing him in, it was adding another dynamic to the records that I was making ‘cause he had input, creative input, especially from the last album Imperial on to Taboo. Having him aboard the mission was perfect."
