maps I can handle. Atlases? Fine. But maps AND atlases? That's too much. Tone it down folks.

i only digged bird barnyard and especially trees, swallows, houses. the rest was a huge bummer the math rock slowly faded away within each release. does anyone have the seattle demos and that first split they made. i couldnt find those 2. files been deleted.

If you want to hear material similar to Maps' old you should check out a band called legs like tree trunks.

Super clean and tight live. Watch them if you get the chance. Cool dudes too. Here is their full set in Riverside, CA. http://youtu.be/pPeWuxaYB28

This band absolutely blew me away live. I dont really understand how one can finger tap such complex guitar lines and sing at the same time... pretty amazizng..

Beware and Be Grateful is really good but problem is that the rest of the discography is no worse than great.

rhythm section is definitely still mathy, those who can't hear it must believe double tapped arpeggios are the end all be all of math-rock (though they still occasionally make an appearance). the early sound featured on the bird barnyard ep and tree, swallows, houses was already way toned down by the time they released you & me & the mountain. i'm pretty sure that earlier sound would be pretty tired 5 releases later if they'd stuck to it.

I'm not one for spam but cardiac-repair's link is fucking great. Legs like tree trunks is fantastic.

just found a new band that sounds a lot like early M&A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxaC8AnvLeM

Having never listened to Maps & Atlases before seeing them live last night, I was not expecting to be blown so thoroughly away. Incredible live performers.

It should be the goal of every musician to make music like this. Dave Davison is some sort of genius wizard god?! My band's EP, attempting to be even 5% as good as M&A is now available for free download over at http://likeslions.bandcamp.com/ if anyone fancies a listen. Influences also include Minus The Bear, This Town Needs Guns and Colour. Thanks!

New album is my favorite thing they've released after Trees, Swallows, Houses. Super catchy

New album is fantastic. Started listening as a fan of the math rock, stayed to watch them turn into my favorite indie band around, with a natural hint of math. I don't know what people can complain about.
