Just Music are delighted to welcome Sophie Barker to the Just Music Café on 3rd February. Sophie and friends will be showcasing Seagull, her upcoming solo album, due for release in March through Ho Hum Records.
Known for her collaborations with Zero 7, The Egg, and Groove Armada, Sophie’s music career started in earnest in the late 90’s when she was picked by legendary producer Grooverider to feature on his debut album, as well as working with the aforementioned Groove Armada on their breakthrough album Vertigo.
Sophie wrote with Zero 7 on Simple Things, as well as their follow-up When It Falls - co-writing the hits Destiny, In The Waiting Line, Spinning, Passing By and In Time. While touring with Zero 7, Sophie wrote an album’s worth of original material (including songs written and produced by Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins fame) - 2005’s Earthbound - establishing her as one of the UK’s most important female singer/ songwriters.
Sophie has also worked with The Egg, co-writing the song Walking Away, which was remixed by Tocadisco and bootlegged by producer David Guetta - reaching No. 2 in the UK singles charts. She also became the voice of British Airways when she recorded her version of John Denver’s classic track 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' for the airline. She formed with The Rainbow Collection, with whom she has recorded 3 albums of contemporary night-time music for children, and has also set up a foundation - ‘The Rainbow Collections Children’s Foundation’ - to build schools and help children in deprived areas worldwide.

Just Music’s own Echaskech will provide DJ support on the night. Latest album Shatterproof “will be recognized as one of the most important electronic albums of the ‘00s, every bit as much as Leftfield’s Leftism is recognized as one of the essentials of the ‘90s" - Pop Matters
Echaskech can be best heard at their MySpace http://www.myspace.com/echaskech
