Lazuli
We are thrilled to announce the first part of our Friday night DOUBLE-HEADLINE line up, French prog maestro’s Lazuli. Over the years, this astonishing band has been the one of the most frequently requested acts, so when the opportunity came to book them this year, we jumped at it. They have always had rave reviews for their live shows and so we are thrilled to be able to bring them to the UK for the first time. Built around the sound of the unique Léode instrument played by Claude Leonetti, Lazuli are have built a reputation as one of the finest bands on the world progressive scene and their performance is not to be missed.
Caravan
We are thrilled to announce that Canterbury legends Caravan will close the Festival on Sunday 9th October. Since their inception in the late 60s, the band, led by singer / guitarist Pye Hastings and multi-instrumentalist Geoffrey Richardson, has become synonymous with fabulous song-writing and jazz/prog instrumental excursions. Having been on hiatus for a few years, they will be making a return to live performance in 2011, and this will be a rare opportunity to see the band in such an intimate setting this year.
Arena
Arena need no introduction to most prog fans, with Messrs Pointer, Nolan and Mitchell now joined by the superb Paul Manzi on lead vocals and John Jowit on bass. With a new album in the works, this year will see the band active once more and Summer's End will be a rare chance to see the band live in the UK in 2011.
Magenta
We’re delighted to welcome Magenta back to Summer’s End after what will have been 18 months away from live performance. We are sure this first major gig back will be something to remember.
Magenta's Rob Reed says:"Having played our last gig at the beginning of 2010, we're really looking forward to playing live again, and were thrilled to be asked to make a return to Summers End! We will be revising the set, so as well as plenty of old favourites, we hope to play some material for the fifth Magenta album, to be released in 2012."
The Tangent
Saturday sees a welcome return to the festival for The Tangent. Now a truly British band, the group features ever-present keyboard player Andy Tillison, brilliant young guitarist Luke Machin, Jonathan Barrett on fretless bass and new recruit, drummer Nick Rickwood. The band are hard at work on their latest album "Comm" and have just released a superb live DVD "Going off on Two".
Headspace
Headspace are probably the only Summers End band ever to have played arenas, having already toured with Ozzy Osbourne. The band features Adam Wakeman on keyboards, Damian Wilson on vocals, Lee Pomeroy on bass, Peter Rinaldi on guitar and Richard Brook on drums. With one EP, "I am", already under their belt, the band will release their much-anticipated debut album later in 2011.
Day Six
Having stolen the show at the Fused Festival in April this year, we knew that we would have to bring Holland's Day Six back for Summers End at some point and K2's unfortunate withdrawal, for a year at least, has give us that opportunity. You will not be disappointed.
Sunchild
Sunchild, from the Ukraine, are one of several projects to feature prolific and talented keyboard played Antony Kalugin. This symphonic prog band have now released 3 albums, including last year's magnificent "The Wrap". This will be their first live appearance in the UK.
Casual Silence
Holland's brilliant Casual Silence bring their metal-tinged prog to the Festival. The band released their first of 4 albums in 1997, with their latest, "Vertical Horizon" was just released.
Invertigo
Invertigo are a German band formed in 2007. Their debut album "Next Stop Vertigo" released in 2010, is one of the finest we have heard in recent years, combining dynamic prog with brilliant songwriting.
Dec Burke
We are delighted to welcome Declan Burke and band to open the Friday night of the festival. Dec is no stranger to the festival having already played with Darwin's Radio and Frost,
Unto Us
Newcomers Unto Us will open the Sunday of the festival. Having made their live debut at The Peel at the excellent "Mattsfest" earlier this year, the band are now working on their debut album (though heaven knows how they got this gig!).
