“Knifey” is an anthem to the ongoing fear of being alone on the street at night that exists amongst young women and non-binary people across Melbourne and Australia. There have been several high-profile attacks on women who have been returning home from a night out across the city. This includes the murder of Jill Meagher in 2012 and the murder of Eurydice Dixon in 2018. Both occurred in Melbourne, and both women were attacked when walking home at night in a public area.
