Born in 1956 in Bengal (Eastern India), Biswajit Roy Chowdhury received his first lessons on the sitar and the sarod at the age of ten from his father Ranajit Roy Chowdhury. Later he was instructed by Pandit Indranil Bhattacharya and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, which strongly influenced his technique. In addition , the way of his Raga interpretations is moulded by lessons from the vocal legend Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur.
