It was written by vocalist Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, who were inspired to write it after appearing in the 1980 film Roadie. In 2022, the band released a demo of “Go Through It” titled "I Love You Honey, Give Me A Beer (Go Through It)" as a single from their debut archival project titled Against The Odds: 1974 - 1982.
