Ella Johnson (1919-2004) , born Ella Mae Jackson in Darlington, South Carolina, sang with her brother Buddy Johnson's R & B swing bands and together they became a popular road act and had several hits in the 1940's. Ella became an influential jazz / rhythm & blues songbird, and continued to perform with Buddy Johnson (1915-1977) into the 1960s. Ella died in New York at the age of 84 in February 2004.
