Escalator Over The Hill is mostly known as a jazz opera, but was released as a chronotransduction with words by Paul Haines, and music/composition/adaptation by Carla Bley. This particular collaboration lasted approximately three years, for this was the duration required to record and produce this work. Its infamous "locked groove" ending of the vinyl-LP format was transferred to the CD version, the concluding hum repeating for almost 20 minutes. Recorded from 1968-1971, released in 1972.
