In response to someone on Instagram, Polachek talked about the song and its place on the album: "The album is sequenced narratively: side A is descent through apathy, longing and fear, side B is re-ascent towards revelation, humor and trust. is from side A."

Caroline Elizabeth Polachek is an American singer, songwriter and producer. Raised in Connecticut, Polachek co-founded the indie pop band Chairlift while studying at the University of Colorado. The duo emerged from the late-2000s Brooklyn music scene with the sleeper hit "Bruises".
