Mac & Cheese 5 is the twenty-fourth mixtape by Moroccan rapper French Montana and the follow-up to 2016’s MC4. Throughout January 2022, French started working alongside Kanye West for his album “Donda 2”. A supposed wave of inspiration from Kanye led to French scrapping the deluxe for his album They Got Amnesia he had been working on and instead begin with his Mac & Cheese 5 project. In this same post, he confirmed music had been recorded for the project with Kanye and Moneybagg Yo. French would however subtly abandon the tape’s rollout after this, releasing his projects Montega and Coke Boys 6 in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Following Coke Boys 6, French sprinkled some singles throughout 2023, those being “I Can’t Lie”, “Wish U Well” and “Okay”, however it was only on November 24th that the Mac & Cheese 5 release was officially announced for a January 5th, 2024 date, along with an album trailer with a snippet of the track “Hard Life”. French announced the tape’s official cover art on December 29th, and revealed some of the album’s features the following days, including Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Rick Ross, and JID. The mixtape would ultimately be delayed to March 8th, 2024.
