Collaborative project between Gerritt Wittmer and John Wiese. These noisy bastards are in relatively mellow mood on this impressive showing. On the A, pieced together from fragments of live recordings, textured noise, and resonant, tuned percussion feel locked in a game of atmospheric one-upmanship. Tam-tam and bells chart cool, serene figures, while the noise fizzes and growls hyperactively, evoking, by turns, a swarm of helicopters, the moans of a thousand hungry specters, and a room full of scrapping jackals. The B side is more circumspect: two abyssal drone pieces, the first a giant gong, or three, shivering in mid-air, spilling overtones, to the sound of creaky rigging. The second drone goes underwater – a submarine humming, the muffled sploosh of seawater, breath exhaled through a scuba mask; sonic options get closed off one by one, as the piece sinks, along with any light.
