Rhythm master Glen Brown teams up with the late great King Tubby, mixologist par excellence, on this superlative set. TERMINATION DUB, a baker's dozen of bass- anddrum-heavy dub tracks, features the rough-hewn saxophone of Richard "Dirty Harry" Hall as well as the primitive-sounding melodica of producer and onetime singing star Brown.
Brown creates and develops the rhythms then hands them over toKing Tubby for expansion, reduction, deconstruction, or frequently, a combination of all three. Less experimental and more danceable than those of Lee Perry, Tubby's dubs are to the point–they never lose track of the original rhythm, and they're sparing in their use of echo and the other effects common to Jamaican dub reggae. But they kick where it counts–in the bass and drum department–and they're filled with sudden flashes of sonic brilliance as keyboards, vocals, and guitars pop in and out of the mix like crazy cardboard figures in a kind of sonic shooting gallery.
