Biography

Two guys who couldn't be more different - that's probably exactly what makes Homm & Popoviciu such a congenial team of creative producers.

Markus Homm was born in 1980 in Romania and moved to Germany with his family as a child. In 2001 at age 21, he had his first DJ gig in Nuremberg, Germany. He quickly made a name for himself. Many other domestic and international appearances followed. One of the gigs took him to Romania, his former homeland. He was so thoroughly impressed by the club scene there that he decided on the spot to get involved. In 2004 he opened a record shop in Sibiu together with other DJ friends.

At that time, he continued to develop his own style, a combination of deep house and tech house. He achieved a solid position in the techno scene, and his tracks were played on various radio shows (including BBC). In the meantime, Markus lives in Moscow and Hong Kong. His intercultural experiences flow into his own tracks and remixes which he produces with his partner Mihai Popoviciu.

Mihai Popoviciu, from Sibiu in Romania, is considered one of the most innovative eastern European producers of electronic music today. He was born in Romania in 1981 and was drawn to the fast-growing rave scene in the 1990s. At age 15 he was infected by the house and techno virus under the influence of the music broadcaster VIVA. His passion for electronic sound grew quickly, inspiring him to produce his own music. At the age of 19 he founded his own record label "Electro.Casnice" together with his friends The Model and Masstyk, and things progressed from there. In the summer of 2004, Mihai joined the International Deejay Gigolos headed by DJ Hell. His track "Sexy Spenders" made it onto the "International Deejay Gigolos Compilation 8". Twelve months later, his first 12-inch "Tales From The Moon EP" was released by International Gigolo Records. Mihai's EP became a notable success and received outstanding reviews by top stars such as Laurent Garnier, Mick Wills and DJ Chloe. In June 2007, his EP "First Contact" was released on Pascal Feos' label Level Non Zero Recordings. Since then he has steadily added chapters to his personal success story with solo projects and those with partner Markus Homm.

As a producer team, Homm & Popoviciu concentrate on a dirty melange - something in between clean minimal and dusty Detroit sound.
