Those not familiar with Daniel Johnston’s work should know that his approach to pop songwriting is similar to Jad Fair’s, with the exception that the former suffers from serious bouts with manic depression and severe delusional behavior. That said, this pairing of these two musical savants is a successful foray into pop music as therapy. The songs tend to be about simple pleasure, and the instrumentation is sparse.
