This song was released as the last track on the third and final album by Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, "Streetcore", in 2003. Strummer had died of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect the year before, on 22 December 2002. "Silver and Gold" is a cover version of Bobby Charles' "Before I Grow Too Old".

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros were an English band formed by Joe Strummer in 1999 that went on to make three albums prior to Strummer’s untimely death in 2002. Musically, the band continued the genre-mixing that Strummer was known for during his time with The Clash.
