“Split Screen Sadness” is the 7th track from John Mayer’s 2003 album, Heavier Things. Two lovers have just had a quarrel and split. John sits around the phone playing out possible scenarios in his head, wondering what will become of their relationship. Regardless of who broke it off, there are two broken hearts. Like screen splits to portray distance in movies, each person is trying to separately heal in their own way– ‘Split Screen Sadness’.
