La agrupación Kraken fue fundada en junio de 1984 en la ciudad de Medellín (Colombia) por los siguientes músicos: Jorge Atehortúa (bajo) Jaime Tobón (guitarra rítmica) Hugo Restrepo (guitarra líder) Gonzalo Vásquez (batería) Elkin Ramírez (vocalista). Al año siguiente el señor Jaime Tobón se retira para iniciar sus estudios universitarios fuera de la ciudad de Medellín y es reemplazado por Ricardo Posada invitado por Elkin Ramírez.
