Helsinki stoner/doom act Mannhai was formed in the end of 1999 by guitarist Ilkka Laaksomaa and erstwhile Amorphis bassist Oppu Laine. Shortly after forming they were accompanied by a young drummer, Junior Pietinen. The band's quick composing process led them to the studio only four months later, where they recorded three songs, which were still completely instrumental.
