Around 1978 he used the alias Mat Stagger and collaborated with later Killing Joke drummer, Paul Ferguson. He mostly recorded as Mataya Clifford between 1970 and 1990, releasing two full-length albums, Road of Life (1975) and Star Fell from Heaven (1976).
