"Sophia" is the second single released from the re-release of Nerina Pallot's second album, Fires. It was released on October 2, 2006. It was nominated to an Ivor Novello Award in the category of Best song (Musically and Lyrically). The passionate and mournful lyrics are said to be inspired by Nerina Pallot's friend, Sophia Giardini, who she caught engaging in sexual intercourse with a rugged Frenchman, known only as 'Corbett', while on holiday in Italy.
