NEWS are a Japanese boyband that has eight members – Yamashita Tomohisa (9th April 1985), Ryo Nishikido (3rd November 1984), Koyama Keiichiro (1st May 1984), Kato Shigeaki (11th July 1987), Kusano Hironori (15th February 1988), Masuda Takahisa (4th July 1986), Tegoshi Yuya (11th November 1987) and Hiroki Uchi (10th September 1986). The group used to have nine members, but Moriuchi Takahiro left just before the release of their debut single, Kibou ~Yell~, reportedly because of family issues. However, this was infact their second single – the first being NEWS Nippon, which had limited release, and as such, wasn't counted as their deubt.
As of May 2006, NEWS is currently on a temporary hiatus, due to Kusano and Uchi getting suspended from Johnny's Entertrainment for underage drinking. The other members of the group, however, are currently persuing solo projects and won't be known as NEWS officially again until early 2007. These projects include things like acting in dramas and making solo songs.
