I just realized that Nick Cave’s first born son is dead… shit, that’s darkly ironic

To me this is a huge improvement over the debut. Not even so much an improvement, really, I guess... more that it represents a new, much more fertile ground that gave Nick's solo career a chance to become something great and to have longevity. From Her to Eternity was a good album but it was more or less a stylistic dead end. Here, he and his small backing band take a stab at the Blues, with mostly great results. "Tupelo" is one of the best things he's done even til now, the slow Blues epics are infused with enough of Nick and co's sensibilities to give them life, the couple of faster numbers (like the psychotic "Train Long-Suffering") are wonderful and the "Wanted Man" cover is terrific as well. A very strong album.

At this point it's not even post-punk anymore... just pure straight good ol' B L U E S (and a wonderful one)

Listening to this album is like enjoying dark chocolate with a cup of coffee. The blues sounds good here.

I love the southern gothic atmosphere. [2] One of my favorite Seeds' albums.
