Desertshore is the third studio album by German musician Nico, released on December 20, 1970, through Reprise Records. The album incorporates elements from Western traditional pop, unlike its predecessor, The Marble Index. One of the songs, "Janitor of Lunacy", was composed as a tribute to her friend Brian Jones, who had recently passed away. Nico (16 October 1938 – 18 July 1988) was a German model, actress, singer, and songwriter. She was born Christa Päffgen in Cologne, Germany. Nico started a successful career as a model in Berlin and Paris, studied acting at Lee Strasberg's New York Actor Studio.
