"Monkey Business" was inspired by an encounter the Pet Shop Boys had with a fan who recognized the duo in Austin, Texas. There, Tennant and Lowe "walked back to their hotel through a side street when this Texan guy came up to us: 'Hey, you are the Pet Shop Boys! What are you doing here?' We said: 'We are playing a concert. What are you doing here?' He replied: 'I'm here on monkey business, just playing around.' Then the song wrote itself." Source
