Smoke & Mirrors" was released on the 16th August 2010. It is the first full length release from this London (UK) duo: www.thisisphantom.com
The album has already received a plethora of glowing press referencing Eno's best work with Roxy Music, The Cocteau Twins, Nick Cave, Goldfrapp, Portishead and David Lynch. Furthermore, Q Magazine and Classic Rock Magazine have also championed the lead single "Voodoo Romantic" with a Track of The Day accolade.
"Smoke & Mirrors" is an experiment in sound: it was created using a new percussive landscape. The album features recordings of places, objects and sounds found organically, both familiar and alien: an antique typewriter thump, the flap of a letter dropping through a letter box, thunder, heels clicking on concrete, broken toys, an empty skip, bird wings flapping, crows roosting and a Mars Space Rover rumbling across the surface of the red planet. Each sound has been carefully treated and morphed into a rhythm or texture to support compositions. This album is provided in two 22 minute parts (Side A & Side B) , seamless when played in sequence, showcasing songs building and bleeding into one another just as they do during PHANTOM's live set.
