“Fast Times at Clairemont High” is the fifth track from Pierce The Veil’s sophomore effort Selfish Machines. The title is a reference to Amy Heckerling’s 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which revolves around a cast of characters over a year at high school. The name of Vic and Mike Fuentes' school, Clairemont High, is substituted in the title instead of the name of the film itself. This isn’t a particularly new concept, with Chicago pop-punk band The Academy Is… doing the same thing with their final album, "Fast Times At Barrington High" in 2008.

Pierce the Veil was founded by Mike Fuentes and Vic Fuentes in 2006, after the disbandment of Before Today. The brothers continued to write songs together and eventually came up with enough material for a new full-length album. Still backed by their label, Equal Vision Records, they wrote and recorded an entire album on their own in Seattle, WA with Producer Casey Bates.
