The eighth full-length album that was unexpected and only happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rammstein was in the middle of their stadium tour when the pandemic started and took advantage of the lockdowns to start writing some new music. By September 2020, the band had returned to the studio in France where they had recorded their seventh album, Rammstein. Recording of the album finished in February of 2021 and in October of that same year a song from the album was premiered to astronaut Thomas Pesquet while aboard the International Space Station.
