I believe Rolled Gold was only meant to be a demo to recapture major label interest. By this point, The Action had moved into more of a psychedelic folk rock direction. The songs and delivery seem to be geared toward much loftier production standards, but I feel the somewhat primitive recording only enhances the end result. The guitar is pushing the amp to right to the limit, giving songs like this one a sense of urgency that may have been lost had it been given more professional production.
