“A Strange Day”, a song about, according to Robert Smith, “how I would feel if it would only be the end of the world”, is backed by the same driving force that appeared on “A Short Term Effect”, only this time it’s slightly slower. The drums and prominent bassline are also reminiscent of the band’s 1981 single, “Charlotte Sometimes”. In a fanzine, Robert Smith shared: "“A Strange Day” was how I would feel if it would only be the end of the world."
