Darklands is the second album by Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. Recorded in Wessex Studios, Southern Studios, Livingston Studios (all London) and released August, 31. 1987 from the label Blanco y Negro. Unlike their previous album, drum machines were used in place of drummer Bobby Gillespie, who had left to pursue a successful career as the frontman with Primal Scream. The Jesus and Mary Chain is a chaotic, noisy indie quartet formed in Scotland, blending the Beach Boys' sunny pop with the Velvet Underground's black-leather cool.
