in edit 72 I changed it back from "is" to "are". What I mean there is that the website does not prefer one or the other in general, and usually selects the one that is correct grammatically in the artists native country (so the "The Rolling Stones are" but "Foo Fighters is")

101 Edit

"were" is grammatically correct in British English in this instance. The Beatles were from the United Kingdom, so "were" is correct here.

Read edit 72. LAST FM IS AN INTERNATIONAL SITE YOU DOUCHEBAG NOT AN ENGLISH ONE. AND BY YOUR STUPID LOGIC...EACH MEMBER WAS A RADIOHEAD.. ONE MEMBER DOES NOT EQUAL A FCKIN BAND. BUT WHATEVER. TO HELL WITH YOU.

98 Edit

Each member was a "Rolling Stone". Each member was a "Beatle". Etc.

97 Edit

Hey Bonehead (areyoutyler). By your logic you say Robin Williams were an actor because it is plural on William. F..k OFF

96 Edit

If the band name is plural, they say "are". [For context, news articles]

95 Edit

IS a band...not "are" a band. Learn some grammar

"which formed in London England in 1962" is perfectly fine.

73 Edit

Tidied up opening para.

72 Edit

"are" and "is" are interchangable. "is" is used to denote plurals in North America, "Are" in the United Kingdom. As an international site, Last.fm does not out-and-out prefer one accent or dialect's grammar over the other.

71 Edit

changed band to rock group

70 Edit

Fixed typo

69 Edit

Was poorly written, and irrelevent baubles like the RnR HoF should be dealt with further down. And it's 'are' not 'is'.
