Biography
Walter "Doc" Steding is an interesting character from the New York No Wave scene in the early 1980's. He was a violinist, who came to NY in the 70's, and worked as a janitor in Andy Warhol's Factory while pursuing his music career. He made a few early videos, among them "Secret Spy" is the best. His group the Dragon People made an album of quirky, interesting new wave-pop(ouch!not easy to classify), without all the pomp and grandiosity of Devo. Try "New Day" for a good example of this music. Walter is also semi-notorious for being the Doc Severinson-styled character on the underground NYC cable TV show "TV Party" from 1979-1982. He played some strange avant-garde/noise rock on this show that can only be described as "No Wave".
