It was recorded and released on Perry's first solo album Street Talk (1984), which he released while still a member of Journey. Perry wrote "Oh Sherrie" for his then-girlfriend Sherrie Swafford, who also appeared in the music video. The single was Perry's biggest hit as a solo artist, peaking at #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, and #1 in Canada. Billboard ranked "Oh Sherrie" as the 31st biggest song of 1984.

Stephen Ray Perry (born January 22, 1949, in Hanford, California) is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Journey. Steve Perry is the only child of Raymond F. Perry (born Raymond Pereira) and Mary C. Quaresma and is of Portuguese heritage (Pico island, Azores).
