Andres Jiménez Hernández was born 3rd July 1947, in the barrio of Gata, Orocovis, Peurto Rico, the son of Don Juan Jiménez and Felicita Hernández. In 1969 he went to the University of Puerto Rico where he started his musical journey with the group Taoné which performed songs of La Nueva Ola and protest songs. While with Taoné Andreas promoted music typical of Peurto Rico. In 1984 he formed El Taller Campesino and he went on to record seven albums with them in the course of eight years.
