Biography
Warstars is a second wave punk and alternative rock band founded by Michael John Tysoe in 1998. Andy Warstar began his solo career in 2006, and eventually regrouped Warstars in 2008 for another round of recording and gigging in their home territory of southern Oregon, U.S.A. The band is now generally referred to as Andy Warstar & the Warstars, and both the Warstars music and Andy Warstar's solo material is available under this moniker.
The music of Andy Warstar & the Warstars is as often darkly satirical as it is light-hearted and fun. Andy Warstar's solo material has been likened to a cross between Bob Dylan and Sid Vicious, while the Warstars music is influenced by bands like Ramones, Sex Pistols, Neil Young, Nirvana, Misfits, Frank Zappa, Beck, Ministry, Dead Kennedys, KMFDM, and the Butthole Surfers.
The band's logo is an obvious parody of a movie logo, and was designed as such to attract an internet following. Starting things off with a pseudo-corporate image and decidely anti-corporate politics, Andy Warstar & the Warstars have set themselves apart from mainstream alternative and punk bands by making their entire catalogue available for free in mp3 format.
