Chi Cheng, (born July 15, 1970) was a US musician, playing bass in the rock band Deftones. Cheng held a BA in English Literature from UC Davis and was the only member of the band with such an accomplishment. He was the author of a collection of poetry entitled the Bamboo Parachute, released in 2000 as a spoken word album. He was a practicing Buddhist, and maintained an interest in Taoism and Shamanism. After being put in a coma following a car accident on November 4th, 2008, Cheng passed away on April 13th, 2013 from a cardiac arrest.
