A band connected with the Manchester Musician's Collective in the late 70s, early 80s, God's Gift strove to outdo their contemporaries in darkness, diffidence, pure feral energy and gleeful musical anarchy. The band was formed by Steve Murphy (guitars) and Steven Edwards (vocals) - both workers at Prestwich Psychiatric Hospital along with early bassist Laura Plant. After releasing a cassette, their first single was "These Days". They also released a 12' ep in 1981 and their best single, "Discipline" in 1982. The latter is dark, driving and tribal and worth remembering the band for on its own. After releasing 2 more cassettes and touring Holland - where the band were shocked that people knew their songs - the band called it a day.
