January Carl Christian Maegaard ( 14 April 1926 - 27 November 2012 ) was a Danish musicologist and composer. His musical career started at the Royal Danish Academy of Music where he studied piano, bass, composition and music theory, and then to continue music studies at the University of Copenhagen . After studies of Arnold Schoenberg's music, including in its own repository, he was dr. phil in 1972 with his thesis on Schoenberg.
