Empire State of Mind - originally composed by Angela Hunte and Janette Sewell - is a rousing anthem celebrating the city of New York. This collaboration by Jay-Z & Alicia Keys was released in late 2009 as a promo, and some months before that by Jay-Z who had also included the track as Empire State of Mind (feat. Alicia Keys) in his album, The Blueprint 3.
Alicia Keys later included her own interpretation of the song, with verses not heard in the original, as Empire State of Mind, Part II: Broken Down, in her Dec 2009 release, The Element of Freedom.
