Johann Georg Knechtel (1710 - 1773) was a German horn player and composer. He worked in the Dresden court orchestra from 1734 to 1773. Little is known about his origin. Knechtel was active as a horn player in the court orchestra until 1756, initially with the 2nd horn player Andreas Schindler, and from 1737 with Anton Joseph Hampel (1711 - 1771). His work falls into the heyday of the court conductor Johann Adolf Hasse (1699 - 1783), who in his operas for the Dresden court served the horn players lavishly with solo tasks.
