Leonel Almeida (born 17.05.1952) is a Caboverdean singer from the island of São Vicente. At the age of 17, he launched his musical career as a member of the group Birds, along with guitarist and producer Paulino Vieira. After having recorded covers with a number of other groups, he was drafted in the Portuguese army when he was 20.
