According to the Brian Eno Songfacts, this ode to legendary producer Brian Eno was one of several tracks recorded in MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden's Brooklyn apartment. He told Spin Magazine: "It started with just us messing around; we never took it seriously as a song. Then on the second day we had the home studio working. At 1:30 A.M. we did a live take and that's what ended up being the foundation for the song."

MGMT are a psychedelic pop/rock band which formed in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut, United States. The band's founding members, Andrew VanWyngarden (lead vocalist, primary songwriter, multi-instrumentalist) and Ben Goldwasser (backing vocalist, multi-instrumentalist), met while attending Wesleyan University, and have remained as the core of the group to this day.
