Men’s Choir of the Moscow Choral Synagogue The choir was founded in 1989 thanks to the initiative of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee at a time of changing political circumstances in the Soviet Union during Gorbachov’s ‘perestroika’. The repertoire is a mixture of large-scale oratoria and fragments from Jewish liturgy that have not been performed in Russia for more than 70 years.
