Biography
Peter Koelewijn (born 1940, Eindhoven, The Netherlands) is a legendary, pioneering rock & roller from The Netherlands, who released his most famous work in the early 1960s with his backing band, The Rockets.
'Peter Koelewijn & Zijn Rockets' is the most common spelling nowadays, but there were numerous different versions of it at the time: 'Peter And His Rockets', 'Peter En Zijn Rockets', 'Peter And The Rockets', 'Peter Koelewijn And His Rockets', et cetera.
The classic Kom Van Dat Dak Af (1961) was a #1 hit in The Netherlands and still is legendary today. Every Dutchman can sing along to it. Not only was it Holland's first mainstream rock & roll hit, but also one of the first rock & roll songs sung in Dutch.
After his glory days with the rockets, Peter Koelewijn continued to record and release records under his own name - as well as perform with different backing musicians.
