Released in 1997, Andromeda Heights was produced by Paddy McAloon and recorded by Calum Malcolm. The production style and pace of the album is a fairly strong departure from Prefab Sprout's previous works, especially Swoon (1984) and Steve McQueen (1985). The liner notes do list a thank-you to previous Sprout producer Thomas Dolby for "his encouragement and advice". This album's sound is akin in tone to the later works (post-Painting It Red) of The Beautiful South, with warm full tones and a more relaxed feel.
