Radio Veronica is a Dutch radio station that started out as an offshore radio station that began broadcasting on April 21, 1960. In 1974 Dutch government passed anti-pirate legislation and announced that the law was to come into effect on September 1. Veronica chose to close down at 6 PM on August 31, 1974. After 1974 some of Veronica's staff set up the VOO (a Dutch abbreviation for Veronica Broadcasting Organisation) in the hopes of applying for a broadcasting licence.
