Shadows of the Past is the debut album by the Finnish metal band Sentenced. It was released in 1991 and re-issued by Century Media in 1995, including the "Journey To Pohjola" demo. It was re-issued again in 2001 with "North From Here" and again in 2008 as a 2CD set along with their first two demos. The album is much different from any of the band's other material, as they would move onto a much "lighter" sort of metal later in their career. Sentenced was a Finnish metal band that played melodic death metal in their early years before moving on to gothic metal. The band formed in 1989, in the town of Muhos, Finland, and broke up in 2005. Sentenced started in 1989 as Deformity and changed their name to Sentenced in 1989, after a few line-up changes. The original line-up consisted of Miika Tenkula (lead guitar and vocals), Sami Lopakka (guitar), Vesa Ranta (drums), and Lari Kylmänen (bass).
