Formed from ex-Plastalīns members, Sirke started out in 1996 as a lo-fi indie trio in Rīga, Latvia. In a year's time they had added a fourth member and established themselves in the Latvian underground scene. In the summer of 1997 they produced a set of instrumental tracks and recorded them under the name of Sirke 603. Soon enough though they discarded the concept of two different bandnames and switched to playing instrumental post-rock as Sirke.
